Greenlee Learning Community

Majors Eligible to Join

Advertising, Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Relations, and Open Option

Program Description

This learning community serves first-year students who plan to major in advertising, journalism and mass communication, or public relations. It is further divided into cohorts by interest in either journalism or strategic communications. It will help students become better consumers and creators, focusing on news and/or brand storytelling, and it will promote connections with other students in the Greenlee School, as well as faculty and staff. The student cohorts will have opportunities to interact, especially through social and networking events.

All first-year students will be enrolled in sections of 1100 set aside for the learning community – one focused on journalism and another focused on advertising and public relations. Most will also find themselves together in one of Greenlee’s principles classes, PR 2200, ADVRT 2300, or JLMC 2400.

The learning community will also introduce participants to opportunities for working with student media, clubs and other organizations that will foster and showcase their skills during their time in the Greenlee School.
